Ángaro is a new show that uses music and dance to present the traditions of the people of the Canary Islands. A fusion of the classical and the avant-garde, this singular performance is now premiering in Jameos del Agua.
Pianos, violins and French horns blend with powerful drums and other instruments, such as conches and shepherd’s flutes, and experiment with dances and voices from ancestral times.
A team of eleven actors and musicians, perform a choral programme on stage consisting of fifteen tunes from completely different backgrounds. Some of them are their own compositions, like ‘Ángaro’, which the show is named after; ‘Fujara’, inspired by sufí music combined with a touch of flamenco; ‘San Borondón’, as a tribute to the magic island. Legend has it that it appears and disappears from the sea. They also have other songs that are versions of popular tunes from the different islands, mixing African instruments and rhythms with other aspects of Canarian traditional folk music.
Ángaro will turn your visit to Jameos del Agua – a place that is unlike any other on the planet – into an unforgettable experience: music and dance in a volcanic cave, transformed into an auditorium by the artist César Manrique.
After the show we have a special Sunday lunchtime menu. Click here for more details.
Buy your online ticket here or in La Casa Amarilla in Arrecife.
Also available at the box office of Jameos del Agua the same day the performance is on, from an hour before the beginning of the show (subject to availability).
